Brazil Nuts Nutrition and Recipes to Make You Healthier

Brazil Nuts are the one snack I really enjoy in the Dr. Sebi meal plan.  They are high in selenium and so make sure you do not eat too many.

Do not eat more than 4 or 5 a day as they can cause a toxic reaction.  Brazil nuts have tons of protein and the Nutrition Chart Below will give you more ideals of how fabulous they can be in your diet.  I order mine from iherb and order the Now Brand.  You can also order them at Amazon.com.

BRAZIL NUT NUTRITION

Brazil nuts nutrition is quite impressive. A one-ounce (six kernels) serving of dried, unblanched Brazil nuts contains about:
  • 185 calories
  • 3.5 grams carbohydrates
  • 4 grams protein
  • 18.8 grams fat
  • 2.1 grams fiber
  • 542 micrograms selenium (774 percent DV)
  • 106 milligrams magnesium (27 percent DV)
  • 0.5 milligram copper (25 percent DV)
  • 205 milligrams phosphorus (20 percent DV)
  • 0.3 milligram manganese (17 percent DV)
  • 0.2 milligram thiamine (12 percent DV)
  • 1.6 milligrams vitamin E (8 percent DV)
  • 1.1 milligrams zinc (8 percent DV)
  • 45.2 milligrams calcium (5 percent DV)
  • 186 milligrams potassium (5 percent DV)
  • 0.7 milligram iron (4 percent DV)
You want to be careful about how many Brazil Nuts you eat daily.  One Brazil Nut has the daily allowance for Selenium.  Recommended amounts are from 2 to 4 and no more or you can overdose and become toxic.

Can Too Many Brazil Nuts Kill You?

Yes, they could.  Recently I over dosed on Brazil Nuts and was not aware of the sever consequences involved.  The symptoms of overdose are:  nausea; vomiting; nail discoloration, brittleness, and loss; hair loss; fatigue; irritability; and foul breath odor (often described as “garlic breath”).

Extremely high intakes of selenium can cause severe problems, including difficulty breathing, tremors, kidney failure, heart attacks, and heart failure.

So how many Brazil Nuts did I eat to cause an overdose?  10.  Yes I know, but they are just so delicious.  Well never again.  I went 24 hours and no Brazil Nuts and tried 2 the next day.  I got severely ill.  So I will do a detox and avoid the nuts for 1 week.

It is my desire to warn you to be careful of Brazil nuts and 1 or 2 a day is enough.

  1. Now that I have learned that Brazil nuts can be toxic, I am concerned that using them as a sauce or cheese could allow you to eat more than 4 or 5 nuts. Since I started Dr Sebi diet and followed some recipes Brazil nuts is used in making several things. Can I still use the The Brazil nuts cheese safely?
